Job Spec
We are seeking a Software Development Engineer to support the implementation of the SHAPE Gap Analysis Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) against the internal ASIM Passive Sensor and ASIM Sensor Control systems.
This is a hands-on engineering role within a secure NATO environment, requiring strong software development capability, good teamwork, and the ability to contribute effectively in an on-site setting.
The successful candidate will work on software changes and integration-related activities in a real-time, operationally sensitive domain. The role is suited to someone who is comfortable working with established engineering practices and can contribute to testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and collaborative delivery.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the implementation of SHAPE Gap Analysis Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) against internal ASIM Passive Sensor and ASIM Sensor Control systems.
• Develop and maintain software using C/C++.
• Use Git for version control and source code management.
• Apply software engineering best practices, including testing and documentation.
• Work within a Unix environment and support day-to-day technical delivery.
• Collaborate effectively with the wider team to deliver high-quality output on time.
• Support troubleshooting and configuration activities where required, particularly across network and systems-related issues.
Essential Requirements
• Solid experience in software development using C/C++.
• Experience with Git version control.
• Good understanding and application of software engineering best practices, testing, and documentation.
• Several years of Unix experience.
• Strong teamworking skills.
Desirable Experience
• Experience in real-time air domain applications for Sensor / TDL / flight plan.
• Understanding of radar interfaces.
• Network configuration and troubleshooting experience, including TCP/IP, VPN, VLAN, firewall, and DNS.
Work Environment
This is a full-time, on-site role based in The Hague, Netherlands, with normal office working conditions. The assignment sits within a secure environment and requires NATO Secret clearance. Candidates should be prepared to work closely with existing teams and adapt quickly to an established delivery context.
Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be an experienced software engineer with a strong C/C++ background, Unix expertise, and practical experience working in secure, technical, and collaborative environments. Backgrounds in defence, sensors, radar, real-time systems, C4ISR, or similar mission-critical domains would be highly relevant.
Candidates who can demonstrate disciplined engineering habits, strong debugging skills, and the ability to work independently while contributing to a team will be well suited to this role.
